BEGMTMBronchial Epithelial Cell Growth Medium is specially designed to support thegrowth of human primary bronchial epithelial cells. BEGM™ BulletKit™ is serumfree and has been optimized to grow cells from normal and diseased tissues.

Product Overview:
Publishedresearch shows BEGM^TM BulletKit has expanded applications. Our customers have used BEGM^TM BulletKit^TM to culturewell-established cell lines such as BEAS-2B, home-grown bronchial epithelialcells and supporting co-culture models with breast cancer cell lines such asMCF-7 and MDA-MB-231. BEGM^TM is an optimized and readily available media kit providingresearchers the confidence and the convenience of a system that works tosupport their cells. This is especially important for researchers who areutilizing cell lines as a stepping stone to primary cell culture. Working withthe same BEGM^TM Media between cell lines and primary NHBE can reducevariability within the experiments and simplify the shift for researchers. Inaddition, if primary cells are utilized as a side-by-side control with normalcell lines or home-grown bronchial epithelial cells, the BEGM^TM BulletKit^TM media may also offer cost-benefit since customers canuse the same media to support multiple cell types.

Data Courtesy of Furukawa, et al. Lonza's NHBE cells, BEAS-2B cell line were co-cultured with breast cancer cell lines MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 in Lonza's BEGM^TM BulletKit Growth Media. Breast cancer cell lines showed differences in morphology and proliferation rates in the presence of lung epithelial cells. Immunofluorescence images of MDA-MB-231 above show breast cancer cells changed morphology when cultured with primary NHBEs and became E-cadherin positive (white arrows). Similar response was not detected with BEAS-2B. The paper highlights the suitability of Lonza's BEGM^TM Media for co-culture models. It also illustrates the importance of using Lonza's primary NHBE cells as a side-by-side control when conducting experiments with normal lung cell lines such as BEAS-2B because the non-transformed primary cells can validate or offset the data generated using cell lines.
