Clonetics™ Human Lung Fibroblasts are isolated fromadult lung tissue. Diseased fibroblasts include lung fibroblasts isolated fromadult lung tissue of asthma, COPD and cystic fibrosis patients. Some matcheddonor sets of lung fibroblasts, bronchial smooth muscle cells, bronchial epithelialcells may be available. Contact Customer Service or Scientific Support for moreinformation.

Most Clonetics™ Primary Cells are also available asproliferating cells in either flasks or plates, or as pellets in RNALater®.

Lung fibroblasts play a role in airway inflammationand and airway remodeling.  They can be atarget for asthma medications in pharmaceutical development. The most abundantcell type in lung interstitium is fibroblasts. They resemble ordinaryfibroblasts but have some distinguishing features, for example, they have longbranching processes and gap junctions. Their principle function is productionof type III collagen, elastin, and proteoglycans of the extracellular matrix ofthe alveolar septa. Pulmonary fibroblasts (PF) play an important role in therepair and remodeling processes following injury. The controlled accumulationof fibroblasts to sites of inflammation is crucial to effective tissue repairafter injury. Either inadequate or excessive accumulation of fibroblasts couldresult in abnormal tissue function. For example, the excess proliferation offibroblasts contributes to the adventitial thickening observed during thedevelopment of hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension. Important researchapplications includ pulmonary disease, i.e. COPD, asthma, CF, TB, cancer.

Cryopreserved Clonetics™ Normal Human LungFibroblasts cells are guaranteed through 15 population doublings, they aretested for negative von Willebrand Factor Expression/Factor VIII, cytokeratins18 and 19, and alpha smooth muscle actin  All cells test negative for mycoplasma, bacteria, yeast, and fungi.HIV-1, hepatitis B and hepatitis C are not detected for all donors and/or celllots. A Certificate of Analysis is provided for each cell lot purchased.
