Primocin™
Antimicrobial for Primary Cells
Primocin™ is an antibiotic formulation specifically designed to protect primary cell lines from cell culture contaminations. Primocin™ is active against both Gram+ and Gram- bacteria, mycoplasmas and fungi. Primocin™ is the first formulation to offer complete protection against microbial contaminants. There is no need to add Pen-Strep. Primocin™ is non-toxic to primary cells. It acts on targets found only in micro-organisms. Bacterial targets are the DNA gyrase and the prokaryotic ribosomal subunits, 30S and 50S. The fungal target is ergosterol, a molecule only found in the cell membrane of fungi and yeasts.
Primocin has been used successfully in many primary cells, including mouse- and human-tumor derived cell lines [1], embryonic cells [2] and induced pluripotent stem cells [3-6].

Primocin™ is provided as a cell culture tested, sterile filtered light yellow solution at a concentration of 50 mg/ml in different formats:

Antimicrobial Agents
Microbial contamination of cell culture is a major concern for cell biologists in research laboratories as well as in biotechnological industries. The use of infected cell lines can lead to unreliable experiments and unsafe biologicals and biopharmaceutical drugs, and is costly in time and materials.
Microbial contaminants, whether mycoplasmas, bacteria or fungi, can now be eliminated from cell cultures by using the right antibiotic treatment.

1-Cell Culture and Transfection Reagents:
Powerful reagents to prevent microbial contamination in cell culture, plus a wide variety of selection antibiotics and reporter (secreted embryonic alkaline phosphatase (SEAP) or Lucia luciferase) detection reagents, and a transfection reagent;
2-Mammalian Expression Vectors:
A broad array of cloning vectors, that include plasmidic and lentiviral vectors, and CpG-free plasmids, a choice of inducible reporter plasmids, plus an expanding library of human and murine genes, and a wide variety of cellular promoters;
3-Reporter Cells:
A growing collection of functionally validated and mycoplasma-free human and murine cell lines, such as HEK293-, Jurkat-, RAW 264.7- and THP-1-derived cells, that report on one or more pattern recognition receptor (PRR), cytokine, or transcription factor activities using SEAP and/or Lucia luciferase, plus a recently launched line of knockout cells that lack major innate immune sensors or signaling proteins;
